Mystery Podcasts

Adding music.

Quick share of a great lesson done at Teepee Creek school with a Grade 5/6 class.   Since Audacity is supported software in our district, I had it pushed to the lab in preparation for this lesson.  Here is what we did:

1)  Podcasting Moodle Page - had all students start here, that way they have a list of resources, how tos and audio files, to refer back to.  As well I have linked the Audacity download if students wanted to use this at home.

2) Quick Demo - I did a quick demo of recording, saving and importing audio from a website, deleting and moving audio clips around.

3) The assignment - you are doing a report from a crime scene.  Make sure to introduce yourself, add some music and describe the scene in detail.

Then we set them loose.  Look at some of their  creations!

Listening to Reading

Bonanza is always an awesome school to visit.  In the morning we had a great discussion about using social media in the classroom and Mrs. Evans set up her Grade 1/2 Moodle Page.  The afternoon was an AISI Literacy Meeting that I sat in on.

One of the areas of focus, as I understand it, is listening to reading.  As we were sitting disussing how the year was going, the comment was that it was difficult to find audio books.  This is where I have ideas!

1) Free Websites to download audiobooks

• Lit2Go each book as a MP3, text of web and a downloadable Mp3
• Children's Stories: Free Audio Books each book as online text, online audio or downloadable Mp3
• Books Should be Free allows you search by genre and then download as MP3
• E-Books from Project Gutenberg download in formats for iPod, iPad and Kindle

 

***Once download you could burn them to CD or load them on an iPod for listening

 

2) Create your own audiobooks

  Download Audacity, from home just follow the link to install but at school you can either submit a helpdesk request (as this is support software) or install it yourself from Control Panel and Run Advertized Programs
• Buy a mic or headset
• 
  
  Find some cool sound effects from Sound Jay or Sound Bible or Freesound
• Lots of great tutorials on YouTube or PWSD's Podcasting course
